Austin, Tx rightfully earns the title 'The Live Music Capital of The World'. It is a place where art and music thrive. It is a place where people can be who they want to be, create the things they want to create, and say the things they want to say. It's so freeing to live in a city where people have a love and respect for all forms of art. It's refreshing to be in a place where authenticity is something everyone strives for. Needless to say...Austin is a great place for artists and musicians.

Here are a few local Artists and Musicians who are doing all they can to make great art.

empty and dirty, part 11

December 1, 2009

When you look back on your life and really examine the journey you have been on you will notice that there are people who play an important role in your story. These people through certain good or bad circumstances help shape your story...someway...somehow.

My friend Harold is one of those guys who has and is continuing to play an important role in my story and the story of the band that I travel with. He has been one of the biggest supporters of our families, our band, and the ministry that we are involved in. God has used him in so many ways to help us do what we do. Harold is a great friend and mentor, and I am thankful for him being in our lives. I thank God daily for people like Harold who have helped shape my story.

We all live a story. We all have people in our lives who have helped shape that story. The question i ask ourselves is this...What are we doing in this life that helps pay it forward? Who are we mentoring and supporting? How are we giving of our time, resources, support, and love to help those we come in contact with? What are we doing in the lives of others that helps them write their own story?

Life is too short to live in such a way that doesn't make a difference in this world and the lives of others. The time is now.

The Bearded Wonder

December 11, 2009

Clay Caissie, aka The Bearded Wonder, is another one of my great friends who I've had the honor of knowing. He's family. He's the kind of friend who I could do life with until I'm old and gray. Clay has taught me more about being a true servant than anyone I've ever known. He lives a self-less life, and anyone that has ever met him can attest to that.

He is the reason I own twelve black pocket t-shirts and wear them 95% of the time...with slight wardrobe exceptions made on Sunday and Date Night. He read somewhere from a monk about simplicity...got rid of his clothes...bought twelve army green shirts...two pairs of pants...a beanie...and some flip-flops. He wanted to simplify his wardrobe in such a way that he didn't have to worry about what he wore each day. He now knows what he will look like everyday when he wakes up. I implemented this technique almost two years ago, and it's the most freeing thing I've done in a long time. However, like me, his endless supply of bags, gadgets, and iphone chargers is another story :)

Clay has recently made the switch to all black, and he looks freaking kick A if you ask me. I recently got to hang out with him in Nashville over Thanksgiving and catch up on life. it was a great time of laughter, good food, beer, and brotherhood. I am hoping we can talk him into moving to Austin real soon...we'll see how it goes. You can find him on twitter @_beardedwonder.

Here are some shots I took of him while we were hanging out in Nashville.
