My Sweet August

September 1, 2009

I could have never imagined a year ago just how awesome being a father really is. It is one of the best things I have ever experienced next to a saving relationship with Jesus and the marriage with my beautiful wife Maris. This sweet little boy is almost turning a year old, and it blows me away at how fast they really grow up. He's one of the most tender spirited kids I have ever met, and I pray that God will use him and his adoption story to impact the lives of many to come. I can't wait for the days I get to share with him the mysteries of God, take him for a ride in my old truck, teach him about the birds & the bees, buy him his first pipe when he's 18, and encourage him to chase his crazy dreams no matter what others might say or think. He's a special kid with a special story, and I'm so thankful and humbled to be his father. May God grant me the grace and the ability to show August what it means to be a Godly man...who risks everything he has for the sake of the Kingdom and Glory of God.

An End In Sight

Daley Hake The Rockstar

September 8, 2009

Daley Hake is a rock & roll photographer, musician, & special soul who I have the privilege of calling a friend. He's a true vagabond that doesn't stay in one place for too long, and it's been a year since I've seen him last. He's been on tour with an artist, by the name of Mandi Perkins, and they had a stop here in Austin this Thursday at Antone's. It just so happened that we weren't on the road, and I got the chance to go see them play. I took the Canon AE-1 loaded with B&W film, and these are a few shots. Daley crashed at my house that night. It was a great time filled with conversation, Homeslice Pizza, Austin Amber, and Derek Webb's Stockholm Syndrome on the speakers. I think we went to bed around 4am, and my old man body hated me for it the next day. I'm learning that i can't hang with the young guys anymore.

I am excited for David and Jenny as they are about to embark on the wonderful journey of marriage. David plays golf on the PGA Tour, and Jenny is about to finish up her RN degree. They are super cool people, and have wonderful hearts. It was a pleasure to meet them, and have a chance to capture their story on film. It was a fast paced shoot, and we had to dodge the only thunderstorm I've seen in Austin in the last sixty days. Thankfully we didn't get wet, and David and Jenny were champs for following me into the middle of this bug infested, wildflower field. I have been in love with shooting film over the past month, and these are a few of my favorite b&w film shots from the day.

This is a story of a husband and wife who have a heart for connecting with, loving, and serving the homeless of Austin. Todd and Patsy White take time out of their busy schedules to buy hygiene supplies, bottled water, and backpacks in order to put together Roadside Care Packages for the homeless of the city. This is a simple, tangible and thoughtful way to serve those in need. If you would like to know more about how to get involved with serving the homeless of Austin please visit us at austinstone.org/serve
