One way they are doing this is by putting out a compilation album featuring Austin’s best up and coming artists that will affect kids in crisis and victims of domestic violence. All proceeds from album sales will directly benefit SafePlace and Austin Childrens Shelter.

I had the incredible opportunity to photograph each of these talented singer/songwriters and bands for the album artwork. Austin is considered The Live Music capital of the world, and these artists represent just that. It was an honor to work with such talented people. It was a huge project, and I probably bit off more than I could chew at times. When Nate approached me for the project I told him I'd love to do it, but I had one condition. I wanted to do the whole project using a German medium format film camera made in 1974. He said...'you're the photographer, and I trust you to make it happen.'

So I jumped head first into the project shooting only film, and it was the most intimidating yet exciting thing I have done in a long time. Shooting film caused me to be extra selective with locations, poses, natural lighting, and the number of shots taken for each artist. I averaged about 5-6 rolls of film per artist, which meant about 50-60 images taken. I then had to get the film processed in town using a local photography store. The next step involved me spending about an hour per roll scanning in the negatives. Needless to say there were many late nights spent bent over a light box...wearing white gloves...holding a dust brush...scanning film negatives. However, it was completely worth all the work once I opened up the images. Film has a look and feel all it's own...something digital can't replicate. The hours of work for that 'one image' were totally worth it. 

It's been two weeks since I finished the project, and the CDs are being duplicated as I write this. They will be here in time for the album release party happening May 8th at La Zona Rosa. If you live in Austin, and you are free Saturday May 8th...then you need to be at the album release party! It's going to be a great concert that benefits Safeplace and Austin Childrens Shelter. The artists performing that night include: Alpha Rev, Aaron Ivey, The Soldier Thread, Quiet Company, Matt McCloskey, Miranda Dodson, Jason Poe, and Jordan Whitemore. You don't want to miss this!

To say that she is one of my heroes in life would be an understatement. She is one of the most servant hearted people I've ever met. She is constantly loving and serving other people. If she's not cooking a meal for someone, she is making a quilt for them. She truly lives a life that puts others before herself. I've so much to learn from her in this area. We could all learn to love a little more.

She's a loving wife, mother, and MeME. She has a faith in God & prayer life that can move mountains. I am so blessed to have the mom that I do, and I can't imagine life without her. She just celebrated her birthday today. If you ask her how old she is she would tell you '29 and holding'. It's been that way since i can remember. She truly is a blessing to all those around here. I thank God for her, and I pray that he gives her many more years to come.

Music For The City, a non-profit org here in Austin, is hosting a benefit show on Monday night. "After witnessing the mass devastation in Haiti this week and hearing of the incredible needs of the relief organizations already pressed for money and supplies, we knew we had to bring together artists, local businesses, and concerned Austinites to raise money for relief. We are doing this because it is the right thing to do." (taken from www.musicforthecity.org)

We are excited to play this show along with some great artist friends of ours! The line-up includes us and our friends Matt McCloskey, Miranda Dodson, Kevin McKinney, and Courrier. 100% of the proceeds of the night benefits Real Hope For Haiti, where Amos is currently living.
