My buddy, Matt McCloskey, has just released a new record called ‘These Times Won’t Last’ that all of you guys need to have in your collection. Matt recorded this album in his house, and it’s got some great vibe to it. It has been getting non-stop play since I first downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. If you are a fan of alt-country…singer-songwriter stuff…then this is just for you.
Here’s the cool thing…the record is free! All he asks for is an email. He also has an option to make a donation if you’d like. I would suggest going right now to download it, and while you’re at it…throw the dude some money. this record shouldn’t be free. do your part in helping to support a local independent Austin Artist.
Matt is playing a show this Tuesday at Momo’s in Austin, TX. If you live close then you need to be there. The show starts at 11:15pm, and it’s a $5.00 cover at the door. My boy, Jimmie Ingram, will be playing electric guitar for him. It’s going to be a great show.

The St. John Relief is in need of some willing procurement volunteers. What we mean by “Procurement”: this role entails people who are willing to contact the listed types of stores or organizations to find out what they are willing to donate or sell with any sort of discount to the families affected by this fire. We are asking that if you sign up, it means that you “own” an entire responsibility as a church, group, or individual. This will require coordination on your part, but we love seeing people come together and see the hands and feet of Jesus do what they are called to do.
Here are the different procurement opportunities that we have available. We could use your help in contacting these types of stores, so that we can quickly obtain the items needed get these families back on their feet.
- DISCOUNT/DEPARTMENT STORES (Especially for kitchen sets: BigLots, Sears, Fallas Discount Store, etc.)
- FURNITURE STORES (Esp for beds, tables, couches: Ikea, RoomStore, etc)
- SHOE STORES (Payless, etc.)
- CLEANING SUPPLIES (Home Depot, Target, etc. – Fabuloso (disinfectant), Toilet brushes, mops, etc )
- CRAIG’S LIST (Both to search and shop for free stuff and post needs for free stuff)
- ASK CHURCHES TO ADOPT ALL NEEDS OF SPECIFIC FAMILIES (provide for all household needs a family has who lost everything)

we’ve been busting it all day trying to get a designated site/blog up that will have all of the current news, needs, and volunteer opportunities related to the St. John Relief effort. This will be the main source of information. Please go there and subscribe to the RSS to ensure that you get the updated information.
The response has been incredible so far. Numerous churches and non-profits have come together to help our neighbors in great need. There is still much to do to make sure the people affected by this fire have new furnished homes and a chance to start over.
Please know that the relief efforts aren’t exclusively for the Austin community. We welcome any and all help from the Global body of Christ. This is another great opportunity for the redeeming & renewing power of the Gospel to be shown. This is a great way for the Church to be the Church. My prayers are that the neighborhood will see and experience the love & truth of the Gospel.
